Subjects covered : Today marks the 153rd anniversary of the Battle of Fandane-Thiouthioune (18 July 1867) where Maad a Sinig Kumba Ndoofeen fa Maak Juuf defeated Maba Jaaxu Bâ and his ally forces, and the battle in which Maba was killed. On this show, the panel discusses the surprised attack of the Seereers by the Senegambian Muslim forces at Mbin o Ngor (also known as Mbetan Kerr Ngor) in April 1867. That surprised attack precipitated the historic Battle of Fandane-Thiouthioune. This is the first part of a series of interviews with Mamadou Faye relating to the history of Siin.

Kirinene Ngueelne is a new weekly chat show presented by DJ Mac (Macaire Ndiaye). Each week, DJ Mac invites a new Seereer/Senegambian personality to chat about their life and work (similar to our old Cosaan Seereer programme). This show - which is broadcast in Seereer goes out every Saturday from 16:00 to 17:00 GMT. You can also listen to DJ Mac on Setsima which goes out every Saturday from 17:00 - 18:00 GMT - right after Kirinene Ngueelne. Setsima is broadcast in Wolof and follows the same format as Kirinene Ngueelne. DJ Mac can also be heard on Jeetaay which now goes out every Thursday from 21:00 GMT.
On this show, DJ Mac chats with the legendary and multi talented Seereer diva Yandé Gning of Toucar (or Tukaar) about her life and music career. A true protégé of the great Yandé Codou Sène, this lady can sing in several African languages and is a highly esteemed griot of "the old school." In December 2015, the Seereer Resource Centre in collaboration with our radio station (Seereer Radio) sent its research team to several parts of Seereer country to interview some notable and knowledgeable Seereer elders, historians / scholars on matters relating to Seereer religion, history and culture, so that we can document and preserve this before it is too late. This team was headed by Tamsier Joof and Demba Sene.
This is the interview they conducted with Alhaji Momodou Marr and Fara Lam Saar in Kahone, Saluum, Senegal. The Kingdom of Saluum was one of the Seereer precolonial kingdoms and Kahone was its capital.

Tamsier Joof, founder of the Seereer Resource Centre and Seereer Radio has been documenting Seereer and Senegambian history for the past few decades. This is the interview he conducted with his great uncle Alhaji Sulaye Nyang, great grandson of the Saluum historical figure - Wally Nyang. This audio is in two parts. Part 1 relates to the genealogy / descendants of Wally Nyang - narrated by Alhaji Sulaye Nyang. The interviewer was Tamsier Joof. Part 2 relates to the history of Maad a Sinig Kumba Ndoofeen Famaak Juuf (king of Siin) and the surprise attack at Kerr Ngoor by the Muslim Marabout forces of Tafsir Maba Jaaxu Bâ and Lat Joor Ngoneh Latir Joop leading to the death of Bukary Ngoneh Juuf, and the ultimate Battle of Fandane-Thiouthioune more commonly known as the Battle of Somb (1867) in which the Seereers defeated the Muslim forces and was Maba killed. Information about the narrators:
Alhaji Sulaye Nyang is the great grandson of Wally Nyang, the 19th-century historical figure of Saluum. The late Alhaji Dodou Nying Kuli Yandeh was a Seereer-Gambian griot and broadcaster. He was a regular on the Chossanie Senegambia [History of Senegambia] program between Radio Gambia and Radio Senegal which ran from 4th October 1973. He was known for playing the xalam during his narrations. The late Alhaji Sait Camara was also a notable Gambian oral historian and musician. He was also a xalam player.
